Competitions and challenges are events where participants work toward a goal against a brief, a clock or each other. A hackathon brings teams together to build something in a short window; a creative competition invites entries in writing, art, photography or music; an innovation challenge asks for ideas that solve a real problem; online contests run quizzes, puzzles or speed rounds; and skill challenges test ability in anything from cooking to chess to coding.
Organizers on MultiVendor Market are independent — community groups, clubs, educators, creators and small companies — and each listing shows who runs the event. You can message the organizer before registering to ask about rules, judging, team sizes or eligibility. Online competitions use the organizer's own meeting, streaming or submission tools, with the joining link sent only to registered participants; in-person events list a venue.
Good competitions publish clear rules up front: who can enter, how entries are judged, what the timeline is and what winners receive, if anything. Many are as much about learning, meeting people and showing your work as about winning.
Contest rules, prize promotions and eligibility requirements vary by location. Read the organizer's official rules, and check your local rules if prizes are involved.
Choosing a competition or challenge to enter
- Read the official rules before registering: eligibility, deadlines, judging criteria and how winners are chosen.
- Check whether you compete solo or in a team, and whether teams form in advance or at the event.
- Note every time in the schedule with its time zone — kickoff, submission deadline and results.
- Look at who owns entries afterward, especially for creative work, code or ideas you submit.
- Confirm what you need: a laptop, software, materials or a strong internet connection.
- Ask the organizer about prizes and any local restrictions on who can receive them.
