A panel discussion puts several speakers on stage or screen together, guided by a moderator who asks questions and keeps the conversation moving. You hear different perspectives on the same topic, including disagreements, which is often more revealing than a single presentation. Most panels end with audience questions. A roundtable is more intimate: a small group of participants sit together, often with no audience, and everyone contributes to the discussion.
On MultiVendor Market, panels and roundtables are hosted by associations, community groups, media, consultancies and independent organizers. They cover business, technology, creative industries, policy, careers and community issues. Online panels send the meeting or streaming link to registered attendees; in-person events show the venue.
When choosing, look at who's on the panel and whether they bring genuinely different views. For roundtables, check who the group is for, since the value depends on the other participants as much as the facilitator.
Choosing a panel or roundtable
- Look at the panelists' backgrounds and whether they represent different viewpoints.
- Check who moderates — a good moderator keeps the discussion focused and fair.
- Decide whether you want to listen (a panel) or participate (a roundtable).
- For roundtables, read who the group is for and what you're expected to contribute.
- Check the time zone for online events and whether a replay is shared.
