About glassware

Glassware covers glasses for every drink and the vessels that serve them. Stemware includes red and white wine glasses, flutes and coupes; everyday glasses include tumblers, highballs and juice glasses; and barware includes rocks glasses, martini glasses, mixing glasses and shot glasses. Carafes, pitchers, decanters and storage jars round out the category.

Glass types differ. Soda-lime glass is common and affordable, borosilicate handles heat for tea and coffee, and lead-free crystal is thin and clear. Handblown glasses from independent studios have subtle variations, while vintage glassware includes colored, pressed and etched designs from earlier decades.

Check capacity, height and whether glasses fit your cupboard and dishwasher. Ask about dishwasher safety for delicate stemware and decorated pieces.

Choosing glassware

  • Check capacity and height, and whether glasses fit your cupboard and dishwasher.
  • Ask whether handblown and decorated glasses are dishwasher safe.
  • Choose borosilicate for hot drinks, and check heat resistance on the listing.
  • For vintage glassware, ask about chips, cloudiness and whether old pieces contain lead.
  • Buy sets or spares through options so you can replace breakages.
  • Ask how glass is packed for shipping and what happens if pieces arrive broken.

Questions about glassware

Are handblown glasses fragile?

They can be thinner than machine-made glass. Ask the glassblower about thickness and care, and hand wash if advised.

Is vintage glassware safe to drink from?

Most is, but some older crystal contains lead and some decorations are not food-safe. Ask the seller what they know about the piece.

What if glasses arrive broken?

Contact the seller through MultiVendor Market with photos. Each shop sets its own damage policy.
