About cookware

Cookware is the set of pots and pans used on the stovetop and in the oven. Stainless steel, often with an aluminum or copper core, is versatile and durable. Cast iron and carbon steel hold heat well and build a seasoned surface over time. Enameled cast iron Dutch ovens are ideal for braising and baking bread. Copper heats quickly and evenly but needs more care, and nonstick pans make eggs and delicate fish easy.

Compatibility matters: induction hobs need magnetic cookware, so check the listing before you buy. Look at handle material and whether the pan is oven-safe and to what temperature, lid fit and weight, since heavy cast iron is not for everyone.

Independent shops on MultiVendor Market sell new cookware, hand-forged carbon steel, and restored vintage cast iron and copper, which can be a durable alternative to new sets.

Choosing pots and pans

  • Check induction compatibility if you have an induction hob.
  • Choose material for how you cook: stainless for searing and sauces, cast iron for heat retention, nonstick for delicate foods.
  • Check whether handles and lids are oven-safe and to what temperature.
  • Look at the pan's weight, diameter and base size to match your burners.
  • For vintage cast iron or copper, ask about restoration, warping and lining condition.
  • Read care instructions, including seasoning for cast iron and carbon steel.

Questions about cookware

Is cast iron hard to look after?

It needs drying after washing and occasional oiling to keep its seasoning, but it is very durable. Sellers usually include care instructions.

Will this pan work on induction?

Only if it is magnetic. Check the listing for induction compatibility or ask the seller.

Is vintage copper cookware safe?

Copper pans are usually lined with tin or stainless steel. Ask the seller about the lining's condition and whether it has been retinned.
