Drums cover acoustic drum kits (shell packs with bass drum, toms and snare), electronic kits with pads and a sound module, standalone snares, cymbals, stands and pedals, and hand percussion such as cajons, djembes, congas, bongos and frame drums.
Acoustic drum sound depends on shell material, depth and diameter, plus heads and tuning. Cymbals vary by alloy, weight and size, and each one sounds slightly different. Electronic kits trade some feel for quiet practice and recording convenience, with mesh heads feeling closer to acoustic drums.
Many drum buyers start with a used kit and upgrade pieces over time, so individual drums, cymbals and hardware are listed separately as often as full kits.
Buying drums and percussion
- Check which pieces are included — shell pack only, or with hardware, cymbals, throne and pedal.
- Ask about bearing edges, shell cracks, wrap damage and the condition of heads.
- Inspect cymbals for cracks and keyholing around the center hole; request close-up photos.
- For electronic kits, confirm every pad and trigger works and the module and cables are included.
- Drum kits are bulky; check shipping rates or arrange local pickup.
Questions about drums
Should I buy an acoustic or electronic drum kit?
Electronic kits are quieter and easier for apartments and practice with headphones. Acoustic kits offer a natural feel and dynamics but need space and some sound control.
What does a shell pack include?
Usually the bass drum and toms, sometimes the snare, but no cymbals or most hardware. Check the listing carefully.
How do I check a used cymbal?
Look for cracks around the edge and center hole and ask the seller for clear photos in good light. A cracked cymbal will sound different and may get worse.
