About product launches

A product launch event marks the moment something new becomes available. Makers and brands use launches to reveal the product, explain the problem it solves, share the story of how it was made and answer early questions. Launches can be small and personal — an online reveal for a maker's community — or in-person launch parties at a shop, studio or venue.

Common launches include new collections from designers and makers, book launches, game and app releases, new services from small businesses and limited-run products. Attendees often get the first chance to see and buy the product.

When attending a launch, remember it's a celebration presented by the seller. It's a great time to ask about materials, sizing, compatibility and availability, and to look at the product listing carefully before buying.

Attending a product launch

  • Check whether the launch is online or in person, and the date and time zone.
  • Look at the product listing beforehand so you can ask informed questions.
  • Ask about materials, sizing, compatibility or requirements as relevant.
  • Check the seller's shipping, pickup and returns information before buying.
  • Register early for in-person launches, which may have limited capacity.

Can I buy the product at the launch?

Is a launch event free?

Many are free; some are ticketed. The listing shows whether there's a charge.
