About google workspace

Google Workspace courses teach the browser-based tools many teams, schools and freelancers use for documents, data and communication. A complete course usually covers Drive first, since sharing settings, shared drives and folder structure shape everything else, then moves through Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar and Forms, with an emphasis on real-time collaboration, comments, suggestions and version history.

Google Sheets is often the heart of these courses. Lessons cover formulas and functions, conditional formatting, data validation, filters and filter views, pivot tables and charts, along with functions that are distinctive to Sheets such as QUERY, ARRAYFORMULA, IMPORTRANGE, GOOGLEFINANCE and SPLIT. Forms connected to Sheets are a common project, turning survey or order responses into a live tracker.

Docs and Slides lessons focus on clean formatting, headings and outlines, templates, suggesting mode, linked charts from Sheets and presenting with speaker notes. Gmail and Calendar lessons cover labels, filters, templates, search operators, appointment scheduling and shared calendars. Advanced courses introduce Apps Script, a JavaScript-based scripting tool for automating tasks, building custom functions and connecting Workspace apps.

Courses are independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Features vary between free personal accounts and business or education editions, and the interface is updated often, so check which account type a course was recorded with.

Choosing a Google Workspace course

  • Check whether the course was recorded on a free personal account or a business or education edition, since admin settings, shared drives and some features differ.
  • If you mainly work with data, choose a Sheets-focused course that covers QUERY, pivot tables and connected Forms rather than a broad overview.
  • For teams moving from desktop software, look for lessons on sharing permissions, comments, suggesting mode and version history.
  • If you want to automate work, see whether Apps Script is taught from the basics or assumes JavaScript experience.
  • Look for template copies the trainer shares so you can practice in your own Drive.
  • Watch the free preview lesson and message the trainer if you need a specific workflow covered, such as client folders or class rosters.

Questions about google workspace

Do I need a paid Google Workspace plan for these courses?

Many lessons work with a free personal account, especially for Docs, Sheets and Slides. Some features, such as shared drives, certain admin controls and appointment scheduling options, depend on your account type. Check what the course requires.

Are Google Sheets skills the same as Excel skills?

Much carries over, including cell references, common functions and pivot tables. Sheets also has its own functions, like QUERY and IMPORTRANGE, and a different approach to collaboration and automation, so a Sheets-specific course is worth it if you use it daily.

What is Apps Script and do I need to code?

Apps Script lets you automate Workspace tasks, such as sending emails from a sheet or creating documents from a template. It uses JavaScript, so some courses teach basic coding along the way. Beginner Workspace courses usually do not require it.

Is this training from Google?

No. These courses are made by independent trainers and are not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Each course shows the trainer or shop that created it.
