About teaching materials

Teaching materials are the resources teachers use during a lesson rather than for homework: presentations that introduce a concept, task cards for stations, interactive notebook pages, sorting activities, review games, anchor charts and posters, and project instructions with rubrics.

They save prep time and add variety, especially for teachers covering a new subject or grade. Materials often come in a combination of formats — slide decks, printable PDFs, editable documents — so they can be presented, printed and adapted.

When choosing, check how the material fits into a lesson, how long the activity takes in general terms, and what preparation you'll need, such as cutting, laminating or grouping students. Previews and teacher notes show whether a resource matches your teaching style.

Choosing teaching materials

  • Check what's included: slides, printables, teacher notes, rubrics or answer keys.
  • Make sure the slide format opens in the presentation software your school uses.
  • Consider prep needs such as printing in color, cutting or laminating.
  • Look for differentiation — versions for students who need support or extension.
  • Confirm the license covers your classroom or your whole team.

Questions about teaching materials

Can I edit the slides?

Editable slide decks let you change text and order; some sellers lock artwork for licensing reasons. The listing should say what's editable.

Can I use materials for online teaching?

Many licenses allow sharing with your own students through a password-protected class space. Posting publicly usually isn't allowed.

Are fonts included?

Some materials use specific fonts. Sellers usually list them or embed them in PDFs; check the readme if text looks different.
