About photoshop

Photoshop courses teach you to edit, retouch and create images with one of the most widely used raster image editors. They're used by photographers, graphic designers, social media creators, marketers and digital artists.

Beginner modules cover the workspace and essential tools, image size and resolution, cropping and straightening, and the concept that unlocks everything else: layers. You'll learn layer masks for non-destructive edits, selection tools and refining edges around hair and fur, adjustment layers such as levels, curves and hue/saturation, and blend modes.

Intermediate and advanced lessons cover portrait retouching with healing, clone stamp and frequency separation, dodge and burn, color grading, compositing multiple photos with consistent light and perspective, smart objects and filters, working with text and shapes, generative and content-aware tools, actions for batch processing, and exporting files correctly for print and screen.

Choose a course focused on your goal — photo editing, design, compositing or digital painting — and check the Photoshop version used, since newer features may not exist in older versions. Courses here are independent and not affiliated with the software's maker.

Choosing a Photoshop course

  • Pick a course aimed at your goal: photo retouching, design, compositing or digital art.
  • Make sure layers, masks and adjustment layers are taught thoroughly and non-destructively.
  • Look for downloadable practice images so you can follow every step.
  • Check the software version used in the course.
  • Realistic projects, such as a retouched portrait or a composite, show what you'll be able to do.

Questions about photoshop

Is Photoshop hard to learn?

It has many features, but a small set of tools covers most work. Courses that focus on layers, masks, selections and adjustments get you productive quickly.

What's the difference between Photoshop and Lightroom?

Lightroom is built for organizing and adjusting many photos efficiently. Photoshop handles detailed, pixel-level editing, retouching and compositing. Photographers often use both.

Do I need a drawing tablet?

Not for most photo editing. A pen tablet helps with detailed retouching, masking and digital painting.
