Invitations announce an event and set its tone. Wedding stationery often comes as a suite: save-the-date, invitation, details card, RSVP card and envelopes, sometimes with liners, wax seals or vellum wraps. Party invitations cover birthdays, baby and bridal showers, graduations, christenings and anniversaries.
You can buy invitations printed and shipped, or as printable or editable digital files that you fill in and print at home or at a print shop. Printed options use methods like digital printing, foil stamping, letterpress and thermography, on paper stocks from smooth card to handmade cotton.
When choosing, plan your timeline backward from the date you want guests to receive them, and confirm wording, spelling and RSVP details before approving a proof. For printables, check the file format and whether editing needs particular software.

Questions about invitations
What is the difference between printed and printable invitations?
Printed invitations are produced and shipped by the seller. Printables are digital files you personalize and print yourself, which can be quicker but leaves paper and printing to you.
Can I see a proof before printing?
Most stationers send a digital proof for approval. Check the listing for how many revisions are included.
Can I use a printable invitation more than once?
Check the seller's license terms. Most printables are licensed for personal use for your own event only.
